As an editor with nearly a decade and a half of experience in the publishing industry, it’s strange seeing my photo in the trade press – I’m far more used to seeing my authors’ press releases! It’s been a very long road to reach this point, and I’ve been sitting on this news for some time, so it’s a relief to finally be able to share it. I’m thrilled that The Silverblood Promise – which is my love letter to adventure fantasy, or sword and sorcery, or whatever you want to call it – has found a home with Anne C. Perry at Jo Fletcher Books, and I’m excited for the publishing journey we’re undertaking together.

We already have a cover for The Silverblood Promise – and it’s an absolute banger from artist Jeff Brown. I worked very closely with Jeff on the cover – I’ll talk more about this at some point in the future, for anyone interested in cover design processes – and he somehow managed to capture the exact image I had in my head.

Here it is.

Pretty awesome, right? Jeff nailed the fantasy-adventure-in-a-big-city vibe I wanted, and I couldn’t be happier with how the cover turned out.

Talking of fantasy adventures, here’s the copy:

Lukan Gardova is a cardsharp, academy dropout, and – thanks to a duel that ended badly – the disgraced heir to an ancient noble house. His life consists of cheap wine, rigged card games and wondering how he might win back the life he threw away.

When Lukan discovers that his estranged father has been murdered in strange circumstances, he finds fresh purpose. Deprived of his chance to make amends for his mistakes, he vows to unravel the mystery behind his father’s death.

His search for answers leads him to Saphrona, fabled city of merchant princes, where anything can be purchased if one has the coin – even a death. Lukan only seeks the truth, but instead he finds danger and secrets in every shadow.

For in Saphrona, everything has a price – and the price of truth is the deadliest of all.

If you enjoyed novels like The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie (not that I’d dare suggest I’m half as good a writer as any of these four towering figures) then I’d hope you might find something you like in The Silverblood Promise.

I’ll share pre-order links as soon as they’re available.

Roll on April ’24!
